Axis Advocacy is a non-profit, formed with the specific intent of supporting adults with sickle cell disease. For years we have heard that adults with sickle cell lack access to specialized medical care, that they are discriminated against in the Emergency Room and that young adults die unnecessarily because there is a gap in making the transition from pediatric to adult care. Our goals are to improve education so that patients can access quality care, and the medical community can improve their understanding of effective treatment strategies. During the coming year we plan to host conferences and honor pioneers in the field, we plan to share information on cutting edge treatments, and we look to improving life expectancy for those living with sickle cell disease.
